Saturday Nanaimo Sez: "Break Dance Not Democracy!"

Defend our Climate, Defend our Communities - Break Dance Not Democracy

by Mid Island Council of Canadians

On Saturday May 10th, the Mid Island Council of Canadians will be joining Council of Canadians chapters, Lead Now and other organizations across Canada in a rally to Defend our Climate Defend our Communities and say YES to a sustainable, stable future for humans, and all other living species and eco-systems that are threatened by climate change. We Stand Together for the Future!

When: 3pm to 5pm Saturday, May 10th
Where: Maffeo Sutton park in Nanaimo.

The Nanaimo rally takes place at 3Pm, May 10th, at the band stand in Maffeo Sutton Park in Nanaimo.

The event Includes a free break dance demonstration by Vancouver-based professional b-boy crew “Art Goes Everywhere” and an audience participation Zumba Against Harper dance party!

The event is intended to serve as creative opposition to the Harper government’s continued assault on democratic processes. From their proven record of electoral fraud, shutting down Parliament, to anti-democratic free trade agreements negotiated in secrecy, attempts to suppress the vote and ignoring the public will on mega-projects such as the Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline the Harper government is breaking Canada’s democracy as we know it.

To this we say: “Break Dance Not Democracy!"

Around the world, more money is being invested in creating electricity with renewable energy than all fossil fuels combined. We’re at the beginning of a great transition to replace fossil fuels with clean energy and ensure a safe climate for all generations. Meanwhile, in Canada, our federal government is trying to bet our economy on boom-and-bust dirty energy projects that pollute the water and climate while piping the profits out of our communities. We will not let this stand!

This event is sponsored by the Mid Island Chapter of the Council of Canadians and the Vancouver Island University Students’ Union.
